CriteriaCaixa distributes a dividend of 75 million euros to the ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation

Barcelona, 5 February 2021.- The Board of Trustees of the “la Caixa” Banking Foundation, the sole shareholder of CriteriaCaixa, yesterday agreed to pay a dividend charged to the share premium heading amounting to 75 million euros. CriteriaCaixa – the company that manages the business assets of the “la Caixa” Banking Foundation – is expected to pay the dividend from today on, in a single payment, which is the first in 2021.


CriteriaCaixa distributed 390 million euros in dividends to its sole shareholder in 2020. In the last decade, the “la Caixa” Banking Foundation has allocated more than 5 billion euros to develop initiatives to build a fairer society with more opportunities for all.

Meanwhile, the Board of Trustees of the “la Caixa” Banking Foundation approved the appointment of Juan Manuel Negro Balbás as an independent director of CriteriaCaixa and the re-election of Eugenio Gay Montalvo, as a proprietary director, both for the statutory period of 4 years.

Juan Manuel Negro (Madrid, 1972) has a Degree in Business Administration and Management from the Complutense University of Madrid and graduated from the IESE Business School. He has spent his entire career in the financial and insurance industry. From 2014, he was a member of the Executive Committee and Managing Director of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS), the corporate risk insurance company of the Allianz Group. He held these positions until 2020.

In turn, Eugenio Gay (Barcelona, 1946) has been a member of the Board of Directors of CriteriaCaixa since March 2017 and Trustee of the “la Caixa” Banking Foundation since June 2014. He holds a Law Degree from the University of Barcelona and graduated in Comparative Law from the Faculty of Comparative Law at the University of Strasbourg. He is currently a nonExecutive Chairman of the firm Gay-Rosell & Solano. Among many other positions, he has been the Dean of the Barcelona Bar Association (1989-1997), Chair of the General Council of Spanish Lawyers (1993-2001), Magistrate of the Constitutional Court (2001-2012) and Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court (2011-2012).
