Venture capital business

CriteriaCaixa manages its investment in venture capital through its management company Caixa Capital Risc and through the investment company Criteria Venture Capital, both 100% owned by CriteriaCaixa.

The holding invests in innovative companies in their early stages, supporting and accompanying them in their development, through two specialised funds: Criteria Venture Tech (technology) and Criteria Bio Ventures (biotechnology and life sciences).

Since 2007, CriteriaCaixa’s venture capital business has made approximately 300 investments in which more than 50 national and international venture capital funds have participated. It is also  part of numerous successful stories involving startups acquired by top-level companies such as Apple, Meta, AirBnB, Astra Zeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Vifor Pharma, Qiagen, Kerry Foods, Vente-Privee, Pernod Ricard and Repsol.

Currently, the value of its portfolio is distributed among around 40 investments between companies and funds, with a high involvement of the Caixa Capital Risc team in supporting its development.

Criteria Bio Ventures

Criteria Bio Ventures is CriteriaCaixa’s venture capital fund specialising in biotechnology and life sciences. It invests in international companies, with main focus on Spain, Portugal and the rest of Europe, and, opportunistically, in North America.

The fund seeks to work with entrepreneurs who develop disruptive therapeutic approaches focused on solving unmet medical needs that transform patients’ lives.

Since its inception, Criteria Bio Ventures has collaborated with ”la Caixa” Foundation as part of CaixaImpulse Innovation, a support programme for biomedical research projects to help transfer research results to society and to the market.

Criteria Venture Tech

Criteria Venture Tech is CriteriaCaixa’s venture capital investment fund specialising in technology. It invests in international companies, focusing mainly on Iberia and Europe, and selectively in North America.

The fund invests in early stages, supporting entrepreneurs who develop transformative technological innovations. Its focus is mainly on deep tech, with special attention to key sectors such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and software and data infrastructure.

Criteria Venture Tech seeks to accompany founding teams that build differentiated technologies capable of generating lasting competitive advantages and long-term economic and social value.
